5.30 - 8.30PM - Wed 28th Feb 2018 @ QUAD DERBY

Pizza 🍕 beer 🍺 and oodles of creativity 🎨 - what could be better?

Whether you’re a budding designer or illustrator, or simply want to learn more about the design industry and how you can make a name for yourself, you won’t want to miss this event.

Ay Up is a great opportunity to meet and greet like-minded individuals and talk about all things design, while using your business card (or email) as a drinks token.

This event is not just going to be a showreel of top work, but an evening designed to inspire creatives from those that have been there, drawn that, and printed the t-shirt!

Whatever you’ve got planned on the 28th, scrap it and head down to Derby’s Quad.

Register using the form on the right, and we’ll see you there!

The brief:

  • Turn up register/sign in - grab some pizza and swap your business card/email for a beer between 5:30 and 6:15
  • Get inspired by our speakers between - 6:15 and 7:30
  • Networking - 7:30 and 8:30(ish)
  • Onwards to the after-party at the Dog and Moon in Sadler Gate, where there will be live music!

Michael Driver

I’m a freelance illustrator that graduated just over three years ago from Kingston University. Since graduating from Kingston I have worked full time in the creative industry.
Primarily I work in editorial where I take big concepts and condense them down to punchy images to compliment long articles, but I've also had the opportunity to work on projects across the board in publishing, advertising and animation for the likes of Penguin, Sports Direct and Deliveroo!

Karl Shaw

A few years ago Karl Shaw combined two of his loves - Derby County Football Club and Men’s Fashion.

It wasn’t born from a commercial desire, just an urge to create a T shirt featuring his Rams heroes and memories - a real labour of love.
Before long, he had created 4 shirts and the Pride Park faithful snapped them up.
Encouraged by this, Karl started working on some clothing with a wider appeal, replacing the football imagery with a new and quietly sophisticated brand.
As the owner of Silver Birch Creative, a successful Derby based graphic design agency, Karl understands how important branding is. He knows that a logo must have meaning and authenticity in order to be seen above the visual chaos that surrounds us.
Karl works intuitively; mood and feeling are what motivates him, the buzz from knowing someone would wear his brand puts a bigger smile on his face than the bottom line.

Sarah and Olivia Pritchard

sarah-liv-bean-caffe-BANDW.jpgDerby's very own foody entrepreneurs, Sarah and her daughter Olivia have made their mark with some of the city's most famous award-winning eateries, including Bustler Market, Bean Caffe, HIDE Burger Bar, The Docks Eatery, and Rask Derby.

The mother-daughter duo also won the 2017 Royal Crown Derby ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award at the Annual Marketing Derby Food and Drink Awards for the massive impact they have had on Derby’s food and drink scene.

From cafes, to burger bars, to street food, to a Scandinavian-style café, these two have continuously brought something different to Derby, backed up by strong, recognisable branding. Don't miss this talk to learn about their journey!

Don't forget - bring your business cards along in order to gain some Ay Up refreshments from the amazing Dancing Duck Brewery!
